The opening race of the Cornish Grand Prix 2015 at Camborne, the Stormforce 10, failed to live up to its name despite the organisers thoughtfully handing out umbrellas as reward for all race finishers.
There were 555 runners who took to the undulating country lanes around Camborne on a blustery but dry January morning, however only 12 East Cornwall Harriers were among their number.
First back for the Harriers but distinctly unhappy that he only broke his pb by 10 seconds was Simon Webber in 1.09.11 in 90th place overall.
Revis Crowle overtook an ailing Chris Ullman in the final half mile to grab 9th lady and first in the vet female 50-54 category. She was also pleased to improve on her time of last year with 1.09.40.
Chris struggled through the last five miles with a hamstring problem in 1.09.48.
Ian Crowle is getting back to fitness after shrugging off his calf injury problems in 1.12.11, and Clive Shute was also good value for his 1.12.13.
Not too far behind was Mark Andrews, in 1.12.35, for once not able to pick anybody off on the line.
Sharon Daw, who continues her incredible schedule of marathons some weekends, and Grand Prix races the others, did a strong 1.14.26 and Lee Crocker, who is getting back into distance training, came home in 1.17.45, with one eye on the tough as nails Man v Mountain in Snowdonia in the summer.
Rob Pick told people last season's Mob Match might be his last race, but as usual Rob's bionic knees kept him going for 1.18.51.
One welcome returner was Andrew Sims, who talked of running six 10ks in six days abroad, and then managed a pb in 1.19.19.
Glenn Wood was out for his second race in two weeks in 1.24.07, and his neighbour and Harrier debutant Lucy Oldham, formerly of Looe Pioneers, was next for the Harriers in 1.31.25. Jan Sroczynski rounded up the Harriers in 1.45.08.
