Point to point horse racing returns to Cornwall on Sunday (December 10) with the winter fixture at the Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge.

With 114 entries for the now seven-race card, an earlier start time of 11.30am has been implemented to ensure racing finishes in daylight.

The men’s and ladies’ open races are qualifiers for the Timico Mixed Open Final to be held at Cheltenham in May, and they have attracted good quality entries from around the country.

Moores of St Wenn Ltd sponsor the men’s open which has two entries from Welsh trainer David Brace, Doctor Braveheart and recent Barbury Castle winner William Money.

The Alan Hill team holds an entry with previous course winner Supreme Danehill, a horse which Victoria Pendleton rode as her schoolmaster. Supreme Danehill also holds an entry in the ladies’ open and connections may take that option.

Other entries in the R & J Trevarthan-sponsored ladies’ open race include the Chloe Newman-trained Sobre Tresor, a specialist at this track having clocked up six wins over the years, and looks to go well fresh.

Of the 24 entered in the Nare Hotel-sponsored race for Veteran and Novice riders race, Chosen Lucky from the Dean Summersby team will start the likely favourite.

A dual course winner here, Chosen Lucky won seven of his eight starts last season and will attract a good following.

Another who will attract a good following is Bishops Court winner, The Kings Writ, from the Kayley Woollacott team who holds an entry in the restricted race.

With the Woollacott team already clocking up winners fast this season. Robin de Boss is an entry which stands out in the intermediate race, having run well recently finishing a close third at Barbury, but will have to defy top weight.

Applesolutely, from the Richard Mitford Slade team, has the benefit of a mares weight allowance and is a previous course winner here and could be the one to catch.

The open maiden race has been divided. In the first division, Danseur du Large looked promising when six lengths second at the Bishops Court meeting, under champion jockey Will Biddick for the Ed Walker team. With Goldbury and Noble Promise suggestions in the second division.

The track at Wadebridge offers super viewing, allowing race-goers close to the action while experiencing some thrilling finishes.

A huge covered barn containing hot refreshments, bar, bookies and a host of trade stands for Christmas shopping is on offer, giving a great festive feel to the day.

Entrance to the course is £10 per person with children under 16 free. Ample parking accessed via concrete roadways.
