DESPITE the wet winter Looe Bowling Club's green at Hannafore was looking resplendent when the new season was officially opened.

The fruits of hours of maintenance and tender loving care were there for all to see as the Conservative MP for South East Cornwall, Sheryll Murray, bowled the first wood, watched by local, district and county councillors as well as the president of Bowls Cornwall, Mike McPherson, who journeyed from St Ives for the occasion.

New captain Paul Toms welcomed everyone and thanked all those who had been responsible for work on the green, and in a stirring speech he urged members to respond by producing some of their best bowls in recent years.
