South West League Western Division One
Dobwalls 4 Illogan RBL 2
(Match abandoned after 63 minutes)
Dobwalls will be anxiously awaiting a league ruling as the game was abruptly brought to a premature halt with 27 minutes to play with Dobwalls on the verge of their first league victory of the season.
There was an impressive debut for Claire Squire who has recently joined Dobwalls from Marine Academy Plymouth. In the first half Dobwalls went behind to a stunning shot from Kate Barker but Dobwalls bounced back immediately when Lindsey Harris scored from close range following good pressure and a goal-line scramble. Then Sam Blake, playing a 'player of the match' performance fired in the first of her hat trick with an unstoppable long range effort.
Just before half time Blake produced the goods again to increase the half-time lead to 3-1. Dobwalls conceded early in the second half as Barker reacted to a cross ball that was missed by the Dobwalls defence. Dobwalls responded again with Blake completing her hat trick after a great pass from Coral Smith.
Dobwalls were 4-2 ahead and playing their best football of the game, when on 63 minutes three players clashed in the visitors' penalty box and that was the end of the game.
It appears the goalkeeper was struck on the temple by a team mate's knee. The injury was potentially serious enough for an ambulance to be called. When the goalkeeper was removed from the pitch to the ambulance at 4pm, the referee abandoned the game because he said he didn't think there would be sufficient light to play out the final 27 minutes before it became too dark.
Both Dobwalls and Callington Town are without a match this Sunday with the pair due to meet in next week's Cornwall Cup.
Plymouth Argyle's quarter final Devon Cup tie at Alphington succumbed to the weather with the pair due to try again on Sunday.
