Runners, swimmers and cyclists, young and old, experienced and novice, are gearing up to take part in the Liskeard Triathlon, Youth Triathlon and Mini-Triathlon.
Tempus, the Cornish charity which runs 14 leisure centres and holds numerous sporting events across the county, is encouraging the community join in the events. Last year saw more than 150 competitors take part in the Triathlon and more than 280 youngsters join the Mini-Triathlon. Registration is in advance only and competitors can sign up by visiting www.tempusleisure.org.uk/sportsevents by June 26 for the Mini-Triathlon and July 3 for the Triathlon. If they reach capacity then a waiting list will be set up.
The Mini-Triathlon for kids aged 8 to 14 years, takes place at 12.15pm on Saturday, July 2. It involves a swim in Lux Park Leisure Centre pool, cycling on tarmac and grass around the vicinity of Liskeard School, and finally running on the school running field. Distances vary by age.
The Triathlon starts at 8am on the morning of Sunday, July 10 at Lux Park Leisure Centre with a 400m swim in the pool, followed by a 19km cycle starting and finishing at the school tennis courts. The race then culminates with a 5km run finishing on the school field.
For the first time this year, Tempus is running a Youth Triathlon ‘Supersprint’ for 15 and 16 year olds, with a shorter course of a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run. This will start before the main Triathlon on July 10.
There will be no on the day entries.
