TWENTY members of Liskeard Leopards Girls' Rugby club got together at Lux Park Leisure Centre last Saturday to 'row' to their April tour destination – Gilfach Goch, in South Wales.
The Leopards decided to 'row' from Bodmin to South Wales – a distance by road of about 190 miles – as one of many schemes to help raised funds for the tour.
James Chudleigh, of Looe Gig Rowing Club, provided four Concept Two indoor rowing machines for the day and, during a five-hour session, the club covered 109.73 miles, enough to get to the destination 'as the crow flies'.
Special praise must go to Chloe Stead and Aimee Vian, both of Bodmin College, who rowed 12.8 and 11 miles respectively, while Athalie Redgrove did the longest single stint of 4.7 miles.
The £109 raised on the day will go towards the £500 the Leopards are hoping to collect ahead of the tour.
The girls and coaches would like to thank the staff at Lux Park Leisure Centre, along with James Chudleigh and Looe Gig Rowing Club; all the parents who have helped out and all the potential sponsors.
The Liskeard Leopards train every Thursday at Liskeard School, from 6.30-8.00 pm, and play matches within Devon and Cornwall each week.
If you or your daughters would like to join the club, contact Ann and Andy Demaine on Looe (01503) 230 292 or 07969 519 890, or Sarah Kneale on Bodmin (01208) 72379 or 07854 014 010.
