A RECORD field of 299 runners took part in this year's Cornish Marathon, with the race starting and finishing in Pensilva.
Following the demise of the Duchy Marathon, the event is now the only road marathon left in the County, as well as the only race over the distance remaining in the Cornish Grand Prix.
It is also the curtain call for the Grand Prix season, giving runners one last chance to move up the standings.
Year on year, despite its eye-watering toughness it has grown in size and stature, with many runners returning again and again.
The overall winner was Kitson Benbow, of Looe Pioneers, who improved his time of last year by 20 minutes with a time of 2:45.20.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Mingo and Sarah Burns, of Bere Alston Trekkers, despite being given separate positions, fully intended to share first place with the same time of 3:19.44.
