Callington Town 7
The Callies returned to winning ways in this local derby with the resurgent Kat Marment (pictured) helping herself to five goals.
Callington made a shaky start and Launceston came out of the blocks quickly and pressed their visitors at every turn.
Their persistence was rewarded when after 10 minutes the dangerous Chloe Williams ran clear of Town’s defence to calmly slot past goalkeeper Sara Rowe.
Callington gradually began to settle and five minutes later they were level when a great Amy Hemingway through ball found Marment who finished in style. The equaliser lifted the visitors and they soon took control using Marment’s pace to good effect.
Peyton-Rose Ringham set up Marment for her second goal, as well as her hat-trick.
With confidence flowing it wasn’t long before Marment capped an excellent first half with her fourth goal.
The second half saw the introduction of Luise Ham and Lucy Kisielewska which only helped to consolidate Callington’s solid defensive display.
At the other end, a Sam Veal corner was swung to the back-post and was diverted into the net by a Launceston defender.
With the points in the bag Callington scored the goal of the game when a short passing move started from Rowe and resulted in Jodie Shipton playing in Marment for her fifth of the game.
Shipton then rounded off the scoring as she got the slightest of touches on another excellent Veal delivery from a corner.
After the game Town manager Adam McPherson said: ‘Conceding early on was not ideal, but once Kat (Marment) started finding the net you could see our players start to relax and play the football we know they’re capable of.
‘Hopefully this win will give us the boost we need. I’m confident that as the season progresses we’ll get stronger.’
Next up for Callington on Sunday (October 25) is a home game against Newquay Celtic.
