TORPOINT Athletic's impressive run of nine consecutive victories came to an end in spectacular style at The Mill on Wednesday night, as Saltash United triumphed 5-1 to maintain their push for a top-three finish in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League's Premier Division.

Any hopes the Tamarsiders had of gaining anything from this game had disappeared by the interval, as they faced a three-goal defecit.

The Ashes were given the boost of a 12th-minute own-goal by Tom Mackinder, before Tom Hall brought down Sam Hughes for Ross Saint to convert the penalty.

The third goal arrived a minute before the break when Hughes raced clear to score, but Point started the second period, well with Liam Thornton firing home from ten yards.

Saltash were quickly back in the ascendency, with Hughes firing home from 15 yards and substitute Luke Doddridge completing the scoring six minutes from time.
