St Mellion are the 2015 Plymouth Area League Champions after beating their Devon rivals Elfordleigh.

Demaine des Ormes in northern France hosted the inaugural final organised by Plymouth Golf Centre with the support of Brittany Ferries Golf Breaks.

Devon winners Elfordleigh and Cornish winners St Mellion (in black) met in what turned out to be an intensely close match with five pairs from both sides doing battle. The early lead was taken by Elfordleigh who went ahead in the first two games using their received shots to their advantage and closing out both games on the 17th.

St Mellion had a good lead in the third game being 4up at one stage. But the Elfordleigh pair refused to give in and fought back well but narrowly lost the game on the 18th. The fourth game went to St Mellion on the 16th green making the match score 2-2.

The final game went all the way to the 18th with St Mellion only needing to halve the final hole to win the match. It was nip and tuck on the 18th with positional advantage to Elfordleigh from the tee.

But when Efordleigh found themselves on the wrong side of the green after two shots, the St Mellion pair grasped the advantage and put their balls closer. Unable to make par on the last, Elfordleigh settled for a five and both St Mellion players had putts for the match. Ian Jasinskyj stepped up first and sealed the game and the match.
