Nikki Welch from Liskeard Junior and Inclusive Badminton Club has returned home victorious from the 4 Nations Para-Badminton Tournament held in Scotland.

Nikki from Pensilva, who has ADHD and a learning disability, won a gold medal in the ladies' doubles and a silver medal in the singles event. She also achieved third place in the mixed doubles event.

Nikki was supported by The Anders Foundation which provided her with £250 towards her expenses.

The Anders Foundation was formed as a legacy to Anders Nielsen who lost his life in 2010. To celebrate Anders' determination to succeed, highlighted by the international success he achieved in his badminton career, the Anders Foundation aims to support young people of all abilities, both disabled and able bodied, to achieve their sporting goals.

Nikki's aim now is to compete in the World Championships which Badminton England has just announced will be held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in September, the birthplace of the Paralympic movement.

Nikki is also travelling to Wimbledon in London to compete on March 16 in a para-badminton talent spotting tournament.

Liskeard Junior and Inclusive Badminton Club are delighted for Nikki and aim do all they can to support her ambition to play at the World Championships.

Her long-term aim will be the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020 where badminton will feature for the first time.

The club are pleased to welcome Toby Bamforth to the team of coaches. Toby is a Level 2 coach with four years' experience of coaching with the Special Olympics to which the club has recently signed up.

The club would like to thank Rob Harrison, of Cornwall Sports Partnership, East Cornwall Community Badminton Network and Badminton England for their support
