ALTHOUGH the Cornwall team didn't achieve their goals in the South West Championships at Cumberwell Park – where they finished fourth in the strokeplay and fifth in matchplay – there were individual honours for China Fleet golfer Tom Fox and Joe Cruse, from St Enodoc.

Fox won the Youths' Championship with a score of 68+71=139, beating Devon's British Boys' Champion Harrison Greenberry, from Exeter, on count-back.

He also clinched the prestigious Clifford Burden Trophy, presented to the leading points-winner during the week.

Fox won eight of his ten matches played, with Joe Cruse finishing just a single point behind with seven wins for the week.

Both players were recognised for their excellent performances during the Championship with call-ups for the South West Counties team to play the Midland Counties from October 18-19 at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull.
