Two weeks to go before the new League Two season starts – so are Argyle ready to banish their promotion play-off final blues and go again?

Often when a club endures such a big disappointment, they feel a knock-on effect into the early weeks, even months, of the next season.

The fact that during the summer the Pilgrims have also lost many of the squad which helped them to reach Wembley against AFC Wimbledon, and you have to say there will be a question mark over Derek Adams’ side when they kick off against Luton Town on August 6.

But the signs during pre-season have been encouraging, with Argyle’s new look squad going out and about, scoring plenty of goals and producing some impressive, organised performances.

Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory over Truro City at Treyew Road, courtesy of second half goals from half-time substitutes Jimmy Spencer and new signing David Ijaha, earned plenty of plaudits from those among the attendance of more than 1,000 on a balmy summer evening.

Argyle worked hard throughout and when Truro stepped up the pressure in the late stages of the game, Adams’ men looked composed and confident.

It was a good test, as had been the 1-1 draw against Torquay United at Plainmoor last Saturday when a David Goodwillie goal just before half time was cancelled out by Nathan Blissett’s 54th minute penalty for the Gulls.

Argyle will be expecting another tough test at Weymouth tomorrow. The Pilgrims complete their preparations against Premier League West Brom at Home Park on Saturday week, July 30 (5.30pm kick-off).
