What more is there left to say about Graham Carey that hasn’t already been written?

Argyle’s match-winner was back to his superlative best in helping Derek Adams’ Greens fly back to the Sky Bet League Two summit with a superb, thoughtful win over Darren Ferguson’s impressive Doncaster Rovers, writes Ross Reid.

Argyle – unusually seeking their first win in four league matches – were more than a match for their visitors in the best first half of football your humble observer has witnessed at Home Park this season.

Two title contenders going toe to toe, sliding tackle for sliding tackle, in relentless showers, seeking the golden goal that would give them an edge.

Doncaster’s passing play was of the highest standard. ‘We are top of the league’ chanted Donny supporters – and it was easy to see why.

Adams’ Argyle, however, boast one of the best players in the lower divisions and when Irish playmaker Carey is on form, so are the Greens.

Against Donny the 27-year-old was back to his best, cheekily nicking the ball away from Niall Mason before racing away to sweep the most delightful of left foot finishes around diving Marko Marosi from the edge of the box and into the top corner on 33 minutes.

‘We are top of the league,’ reported Argyle’s green army of fans.

Jake Jervis added a second goal after recalled Ryan Donaldson won a 63rd minute penalty and even then Donny were denied when a last minute Liam Mandeville spot kick spun off the outside of the post.

‘It was an excellent day for us,’ said Adams as he bashed the proverbial nail on its head accompanied by his best polished Glaswegian grin.
