HAVING been given the opportunity to step up a level from the East Cornwall League, Lanreath were under no illusions that it was going to be a very tough season.

And so it proved to be as they ended the season with only two wins and two draws to end in 14th place.

Manager Andy Collins said: ‘Losing our first game 10-0 at the hands of one of the league favourites Saltash came as a massive rude awakening.

‘That, and the 12-0 mauling by St Dennis, were definitely low points of the season.

‘Unfortunately, injuries played a big part in our season. We had five or six long-term injuries.

‘That would be bad enough, but with these being key figures in the squad, it was a big blow.

‘The lows in the season were many, but that made the highs (of the few wins we did have) feel even better.

‘We had a half-decent squad, and even 3-2 losses against St Austell 3-2 and Saltash felt like we could compete with the best in the league.’

Their only victories came with a 3-1 win at Wadebridge Town and a 1-0 triumph over Liskeard Athletic, while they were awarded the points against Bude Town.

This was supplemented by gaining draws against Saltash Borough (3-3) and Callington Town (2-2).

Discipline was another factor through the club, as they suffered a number of red cards.

Scoring was also a problem, with Ryan Oxley (7) and Tyler Collins (6) topping the charts whilst they conceded a massive 97 goals.

Collins added: ‘At the start of the season Derron (Wilson) and I discussed objectives.

‘There was only one, which we knew would be really difficult, and it was to stay in the division.

‘No-one expected us to do it, yet here we are preparing for another season in the St Piran League due to powers out of our control.

‘Derron and I would like to thank all of the players and committee at LFC for all their hard work during a very tough season and look forward to meeting up with everyone soon.’
