RYAN Richards ended his goalscoring drought with the winner as Torpoint Athletic reached the semi-finals of the Walter C Parson Cup with a 3-2 victory over Liskeard Athletic at The Mill last night.

It was expected to be a tight, exciting game, and it did not disappoint, with little to choose between the two sides for much of the contest.

Point took a ninth-minute lead when Blues goalkeeper Luke Gwillam allowed a 30-yard drive from Lewis Pacey to squirm between his arms, but James Rowe equalised 11 minutes later with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Callum Thompson put Point back in front when he finished off a lovely passing move in the 34th minute, and it remained 2-1 until James Lorenz popped up at the far post for Liskeard’s second goal.

However, Richards scored his first goal in five games in the 69th minute. Gwillam came racing off his line to claim a cross but Richards got there first to head home and send Torpoint into the last four of the League Cup for the first time since the creation of the Peninsula League, where they will now face Elburton Villa at Bovey Tracey FC on Tuesday, March 29.
