Plymouth Argyle 0 Liverpool 1
Plymouth Argyle bowed out of the FA Cup to Premier League giants Liverpool on Wednesday evening - but did themselves and the South West proud with a rousing performance.
The third round replay, watched by a Home Park capacity crowd of 17,043, was settled by an 18th minute Lucas goal, a near post header from a Coutinho corner from the left.
But Argyle, roared on from start to finish by the Green Army, grew in confidence as the tie progressed and came desperately close to an equaliser when Jake Jervis sent a scissors kick against a post in the 78th minute.
Liverpool were awarded a penalty three minutes from the end of normal time but Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick comfortably saved Origi’s poorly struck spot kick.
This set up a frantic finish, which included four minutes of time added on, with Argyle pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser which would have sent the tie into extra time.
But Jurgen Klopp’s men held firm to book a home fourth round tie against Championship side Wolves on Saturday January 28.
