WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Wells City 0 Newquay 3

BOSS Shaun Middleton hailed his side’s performance as ‘probably a ten out of ten’ as play-off hopefuls Newquay continued their fine form with a comfortable victory at mid-table Wells City on Saturday.

Both teams had their moments in a first half that looked to be on the way to ending goalless before centre-half Cam Turner headed in Tim Nixon’s corner after 37 minutes.

Within five minutes it was 2-0 as Jack Bray-Evans slotted in following fine work down the right by frontman Louis Price. The Peppermints’ defended brilliantly when they had to, and added a third 52 minutes in when Callam McOnie robbed a centre-half before firing into an unguarded net.

Unsurprisingly, Middleton couldn’t hide his delight at full-time, saying: “That was such a good performance, it was fast, slick, the rotations were really good and pretty much everything I asked for in the team talk.”

He continued: “We were really fast, great overloads, the ball was coming in and out of the pockets really, really quick, and third man runners there was plenty of them, so as perfection goes for a performance that’s probably a ten out of ten.

“Not only that we also defended so well with last-ditch tackles, header after header and they’re a really good side. So to score three and not concede up here, I couldn’t be any happier to be honest.”

It was a fifth successive shutout in the league for the Cornishmen with Middleton adding: “I think it shows the resilience of the team and that the units are starting to work together now.”
