REDRUTH will give a debut to Harry Larkins at full-back for tomorrow’s trip to Cinderford in National League Two West.
The flyer, who can play at 15 or on the wing, recently rejoined the club he spent his formative years at from neighbours Camborne where he became a regular try-scorer in recent seasons.
However, a host of summer signings saw his game-time reduced, and has made the short switch to the Recreation Ground looking to help the Reds continue their superb start to the campaign.
A seven-match winning run was ended by second-placed Hinckley last weekend, but Richie Kevern’s side still have a four-point lead before they head to the Forest of Dean.
Larkins, who is preferred to Luke Johnson, is one of three changes to the starting 15.
Fellow recent recruit from Camborne, Aden Brassington, makes his first start at flanker as Mawgan Osborne switches to the second-row alongside Todd Prisk with Luke Hattam dropping to the bench.
Noah Clifford also will hope to make an impact later on as Cornish Pirates loanee Finn Love gets a chance from the outset. Love is joined in the squad by club-mate Dylan Neill. The Scottish Under 19s hooker recently signed for the Pirates following a trial, and has been sent out on loan to get some game-time.
Kevern felt his side weren’t far away last weekend.
He said: “It was a disappointing result last week, although a great encounter for the neutral. Both teams had limited opportunities and ultimately it came down to us missing them and Hinckley taking the one they got.
“You certainly can’t question the effort from the lads and we put in a huge shift defensively to stop a big, heavy side.”
A trip to Cinderford is never easy. They sit seventh in the standings, but just eight adrift of the Reds, and rarely lose on their 3G pitch.
Kevern continued: “This week is very similar to last week where we’re playing a dangerous, physical side that can punish you if you don’t turn up in the right frame of mind.
“But there’ll be no massive changes tactically as we weren’t miles off. It just comes down to being more clinical when we get our chances, respecting the ball and keeping our focus discipline wise.”
