EIGHT games seven wins; even the most ardent of Camborne supporters would admit that they probably wouldn’t have expected such a dream start to life in National League One.

The Cherry and Whites have only lost to leaders Plymouth Albion so far and are third in the standings ahead of tomorrow’s home date with Bishop’s Stortford.

The Bedfordshire outfit travel in ninth with three wins and five defeats so far, but of more importance are three points above the bottom three.

For Camborne, who moved to within a point of second-placed Tonbridge Juddians following their defeat last time out, they have made four changes to the starting XV.

While there is just one alteration in the backline as Ben Power comes in for the injured Alex Ducker on the wing, the entire front row has been changed.

Jack Andrew makes a first start of the season at loosehead-prop having recently returned from his lengthy ban and comes in for Tommy-Lee Southworth, while veteran Jon Drew is preferred to youngster Ben Woodmansey.

With flanker Jordan Nicholls rested, skipper Sam Matavesi reverts to the back row with try-machine Ben Priddey making a first start in several weeks.

CJ Boyce and Matt Shepherd come into the matchday squad with Southworth and Woodmansey joined as forwards options by back-rower Barnaby Elderkin.

On selection, Kessell said: “(Alex) Ducker looks like he’ll be out for a few weeks which will be a big miss and leaves big shoes to fill, but we’ve got plenty of options and it gives somebody, in this case Ben Power, a chance.

“We’ve got really good depth at the moment with nearly everybody available which means we’re determined not to run players into the ground. It also keeps competition healthy and players’ know they have to play well to keep their spot.

“As for this week, it’s great to put Jack, Ben and Jon Drew back into the team, while Ben Power’s done really well since he’s come in whether that’s in the centre or on the wing like last week.

It’s about trying to pick the right team for each game and that’s what we’ll continue to try and do.”

Bishop’s Stortford ended Kent-based Tonbridge Juddians’ unbeaten start on Saturday, and Kessell knows they face a stern test.

He continued: “They are a very established side at this level and beat Tonbridge last week, so I’m sure they’ll come down here fancying their chances.

“Remarkably it’s only our fourth game at home and we’re now into November, but it’s going to be another really good day, particularly as the seconds are also at home. Hopefully we’ll have another really big crowd in and we can get another win in front of our supporters.”
