Millbrook 1 St Martins 3

Millbrook suffered defeat to St Martins at St Dennis on Sunday in the curtain-raiser to the South West Peninusla League season.

Skipper Tom Payne scored Millbrook’s goal two minutes from the end but by then St Martins were already 3-0 ahead and cruising to victory.

The Charity Vase brings together the champions of west and east divisions from last season and after weeks of wall to wall sunshine, it was no surprise to see the rain return.

The first goal of the season came with Ben Watson firing St Martins into the lead after half an hour which the Minstermen maintained to the interval.

St Matins doubled their advantage with a 59th minute penalty, again scored by Watson, before the goal of the game came from substitute Jamie Harkness, who made it 3-0 after 82 minutes.
