Liskeard Athletic 1 Holsworthy 1

Liskeard midfield man Macauley Thorp is likely to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious ankle injury in Monday night’s controversial Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west game at Lux Park.

Thorp was taken to hospital for treatment to ankle and shin injuries following a late challenge by Holsworthy striker Adam Smith in the 79th minute.

Liskeard manager Martin Hodge said: ’Macauley appears to have damaged his ligaments badly and that can often be more serious than a break.

’We are disappointed with Holsworthy. These injuries happen, we all know that, but there are ways to respond to them.’The game was held up for five minutes while Thorp received treatment on the pitch, and before the game could restart, Holsworthy substituted Smith. After a goalless and featureless first half, the game burst into action in the 49th minute when Liskeard were awarded a dubious penalty when James Lorenz went down. Before Lorenz could take the spot kick, Holsworthy keeper Ryan Walter was shown a straight red card for dissent.Striker Joe Barker took over in goal and although he could do nothing to stop Lorenz making it 1-0, he went on to perform heroics as the home side pushed to increase their advantage. But Holsworthy were then awarded their own dubious penalty in the 75th minute when the referee thought Thorp had tripped Smith.Smith stepped up to equalise.
