Liskeard Athletic 4 St Dennis 0

Liskeard went back to the top of Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west on Tuesday night after a storming second half display at Lux Park which gave them their fourth successive league win.

The Blues were fortunate to be 1-0 ahead at half-time, courtesy of a 10th minute Tom Cleveland strike, after St Dennis spurned a hatful of chances.

But the home side started the second half on fire and after Cleveland and Ben Waters missed opportunities, top scorer James Lorenz made it 2-0 in the 49th minute.

He increased Liskeard’s lead five minutes later as his cross from wide on the right flew into the net, giving St Dennis goalkeeper Ryan Holland no chance.

Cleveland missed a sitter from inside the six yard box in the 59th minute, lifting his shot over the bar, but he made amends with a great individual goal three minutes from time.

Cultured midfield man Macauley Thorp, out of action since April with a knee ligament injury, made his comeback as a 78th minute substitute for Liskeard skipper Jack Podmore, who was suffering from a sore knee.
