Wendron United have announced that Saturday’s Cornwall Charity Cup quarter-final at home to Liskeard Athletic will go ahead.
This is despite the tragic news that the West Cornwall club’s chairman, Kevin Williamson, died in hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Williamson, 63, was a popular and long-standing member of Wendron who was celebrating the first team’s Cornwall Senior Cup win over Porthleven on Saturday when he collapsed in the dressing room.
A statement by Wendron FC said: ’Saturday’s first team fixture at home to Liskeard will go ahead; however, the second, third and fourth team games have been postponed.
’We will be having a minute’s silence in his honour and we will not be collecting any gate receipts.
’Instead we will be collecting donations for the Air Ambulance who, along with paramedics, were fantastic in their response and support on Saturday.
’We will be raising a glass in Kevin’s honour in the clubhouse after the game.’
