Liskeard Athletic 1 Bovey Tracey 3

Liskeard’s FA Vase campaign came to an abrupt end at Lux Park on Saturday when they were well beaten by Bovey Tracey in the first qualifying round.

This was the battle of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west and east leaders but the Blues looked second best by a distance.

Bovey made a fast start, with Gav Collins sweeping in a low shot after only two minutes and they doubled their lead two minutes before the break through Lewis Woodmore from a corner after a Charlie Johansen penalty was brilliantly turned around the post by Liskeard goalkeeper Josh Gilbert.

A two-goal lead was no more than Bovey deserved and Liskeard needed to start the second half on the front foot.

Unfortunately they hardly had time to respond as Bovey made it 3-0 inside the opening minute of the second half, with Cieran Bridger driving home a low shot from 15 yards.

That was virtually game over and Liskeard only really started to produce their better football in the last 15 minutes, during which James Lorenz squeezed in a penalty after a bizarre penalty award by referee Nicholas Eckland, who had a poor match.

Bovey Tracey will now be at home to SWPL premier division Tavistock on September 15.
