Bodmin Town 4 Camelford 0
Bodmin are through to an FA Vase first round proper home tie against Wessex League side AFC Stoneham on October 13 after a second qualifying round replay win over Camelford at Priory Park on Wednesday night.
Stuart Bowker’s disputed 25th minute penalty for Bodmin separated the sides after an error-strewn first half in which Camelford spurned several excellent chances to score.
It took until the 69th minute for Bodmin to double their lead through Callum McGhee, who made it 3-0 nine minutes later, before Olly Brokenshire completed the scoring eight minutes from time.
If Southampton-based Stoneham had anybody watching the tie, they would have found little to worry them during a first half which was of a poor standard.
It took a dubious penalty award to break the deadlock. Camelford goalkeeper Luke Gwillam was adjudged by a linesman to have fouled a Bodmin player during a melee in the six yard box.
It seemed a strange decision, given that the referee, who was only a few yards from the incident, allowed play to continue as Camelford scrambled the ball off the line.
To rub salt into Camelford’s wounds, Gwillam was shown a yellow card before Bowker scored from the penalty spot, although he appeared to slip and make a double contact with the ball before it spun into the net.
Camelford created, and missed, several great chances in the first half, with Joe Adkins twice denied by Bodmin goalkeeper Cory Harvey, while striker Mark Gusterson somehow fired wide when running through unmarked only three minutes before Bodmin’s penalty.
Bodmin managed to put together a period of pressure midway through the second half and eventually got the goals to take them through.
