FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

Saltash United 0

St Austell 4

St Austell booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup against Bodmin Town after a dominant victory over their fellow Peninsula League outfit hosts.

It didn’t take Ashes long to go behind as they failed to cut out a corner in the second minute which Lee Whetter side-footed home.

The Ashes then had to clear the ball off the line with goalkeeper Sam Blackler twice being called into action.

Saltash found it difficult to set up any meaningful attacks, although they should have drawn level but striker Dave Youlden shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Looking to improve on their first half performance, Saltash were stunned almost from the kick off when Liam Eddy was given the freedom of the park to waltz his way past a static defence to make it 2-0.

To their credit, Saltash threw everything into attack but when the ball from a Danny Brook free kick rebounded to Will Tinsley, the young striker was the first to react to score.

Unfortunately, more poor defending allowed Jack Bowyer to run on to a pass from Neil Slateford to seal the victory.
