Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock declared himself delighted at the Liskeard Athletic pitch during an early visit to Lux Park on Sunday morning.
Warnock’s Premier League squad are based in Cornwall for the next six days, they are training at Liskeard from Monday to Friday, and the club’s under 23 squad face the Blues at Lux Park in a friendly on Saturday (2pm kick-off).
The Cardiff boss, whose family house is 12 miles away near Stoke Climsland, met Liskeard president Richard Collins and chairman Roger Williams at the ground early on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the playing surface.
He told the Cornish Times: ‘We’ve never brought the squad to Liskeard before so I wanted to have a look at the pitch and I must say I am delighted with it.
‘The people at the club, like Richard and Roger, have obviously put in a lot of hard work to get it this good; it’s work that generally goes unnoticed but is vital for a local club like this.
‘The pitch is so good that I will now seriously consider including a few more first team players in the squad for Saturday’s game here.’
Cardiff’s first team play Tavistock (Monday July 16), Bodmin Town (Wednesday July 18) and Torquay United (Friday July 20).
The Under 23s face St Austell (Tuesday July 17), Porthleven (Thursday July 19) and Liskeard (Saturday July 21).
Cardiff’s players are based at the St Mellion International Resort between Callington and Saltash.
