WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Wellington 1 St Blazey 7
ST BLAZEY ended their run of three straight draws by easing past bottom side Wellington in Somerset on Saturday.
The Green and Blacks started as firm favourites against a home side who had lost all 10 games following a tough summer off the field, but fell behind early on through Alfie Barrett’s looping header.
However, the visitors equalised on 28 minutes through Kai Burrell after his initial effort struck the crossbar, and by half-time had added another three.
Burrell got the next from the penalty spot after Teigan Rosenquest was fouled, before good team moves were finished off by Tallan Mitchell and Olly Redd respectively.
Mitchell added his second on 68 minutes, and with nine to play it was 6-1 as Burrell completed his hat-trick by heading in Jack Calver’s corner.
Calver then got on the scoresheet himself late on as he found the far corner from 20 yards following a short corner routine.
Boss Dan Hart who sees his side welcome relegated Brixham on Wednesday night in the league before an FA Vase tie at Longwell Green Sports on Saturday, said: “I was pleased with the boys, their approach was professional and we looked sharp.
“It was a bit disappointing to concede the first goal, but our response was really good and we got our rewards. These games are tough for both managers and players, but we scored some good goals and it sets up for a really tough week in both the league and FA Vase where we know we’ll need to be at our best.”
