SALTASH welcome old rivals St Ives to Moorlands Lane tomorrow in Counties One Western West (3pm) looking to build on last weekend’s encouraging performance at Camborne Seconds.
While the Ashes might have lost 29-10 against their promoted hosts, the Cherry and Whites named a side packed with talent who have played at a far higher level, and have designs on going up another division.
For Saltash, home games against a side like St Ives are where they need to pick up the points that will secure them a third straight season at Step Seven.
The Hakes came up the year before and have established themselves back in the division, something Saltash managed to do last year by the skin of their teeth following a late surge and Torquay Athletic beating Penryn to send the Borough down.
Ashes head coach Craig Jones makes just one change from last weekend as Andrew Walsh comes in for unavailable fly-half Dylan Davies. Walsh switches to the centre which allows Billy Dover to take the 10 shirt.
Summer signing Billy Garratt could make his first team debut and is joined on the bench by Pete Britland and last year’s Colt, Harry Richardson.
SALTASH v St Ives: Ryan Cruickshanks; Henry Taylor, Greg Eatwell, Andrew Walsh, Jay Moriarty (capt); Billy Dover, Jack Pritchard; Simon Nance, Fin Jones, Liall Honey; Thomas Hoban, James Sutton; Laurie Thomson, Phil Eatwell (capt), Steve Hillman. The Ashes’ second-string head to the Cornish Heartlands to tackle Veor at Illogan Park RFC.
