LAUNCESTON head coach Steve Perry has made three alterations from last Saturday’s opening day defeat at Trowbridge when they host promotion-hopefuls Brixham to Polson Bridge (3pm) tomorrow in Regional One South West.

The All Blacks trailed 26-0 at the break following a slow start, but a fine comeback, albeit in vain, saw them head back from Wiltshire with two bonus-points for their efforts in a 33-28 setback.

Brixham thrashed Perry’s old club Exmouth 38-10 at Astley Park as they look to challenge for the title with the likes of Topsham, and have a powerful pack and plenty of threats in the backline.

However, Launceston have more strength in-depth this year and Perry and forwards coach Will James haven’t wasted their time in giving opportunities.

While the trio of skipper Mitch Hawken, Archie Doidge and Charlie Short remain in tow in the front row, locks Devon Bennett-Murray and Dan Goldsmith both start on the bench having been replacements last week.

Cian Baker drops to the bench while Andy Rowe drops to the second team as Charlie Tummon switches to six and George Harris moves to the back of the scrum.

Vice-skipper George Hillson and James Tucker are once again the half-backs as are Jack Easton and Eoin Baker the centres and Sheldon Higgins and Ollie Bebbington on the wing and at full-back respectively.

The sole alteration sees second team player/coach Dan Pearce preferred to Billy Martin who reached 50 caps last Saturday.

On the bench, Alex Bartlett comes in for Sam Snell having become a dad in recent days, while elsewhere on the bench, Baker and Martin are joined by hooker Rory Mead and back-rower Jed Griffin who impressed on debut for the seconds at Liskeard-Looe last weekend.

LAUNCESTON v Brixham: Ollie Bebbington; Sheldon Higgins, Eoin Baker, Jack Easton, Dan Pearce; James Tucker, George Hillson; Mitch Hawken (capt), Archie Doidge, Charlie Short; Devon Bennett-Murray, Dan Goldsmith; Charlie Tummon, Lloyd Duke, George Harris. Replacements: Alex Bartlett, Rory Mead, Cian Baker, Jed Griffin, Billy Martin.

While the ladies have a week off in Women’s Championship South West Two, the Castles head to Newquay in Counties Two Cornwall tomorrow (3pm) looking to build on their opening day victory at Liskeard-Looe.

They earned a narrow 33-31 success at Lux Park and head to the Sports Centre with another strong side.

Sam Snell comes in for Tom Stevens at prop, while veteran Simon Burden also gets the nod on the other side of the front of the scrum.

Lock Jake Crabb is available again and starts alongside youngster Zander Zambuni, while Finn Stiles, Andy Rowe and Brandon Rowley form a very strong back-row.

The rest of the team has a similar look to it, although Barnstaple loanee Mitch Sibley is absent as Ollie Tomkies starts at scrum-half next to Albie Newton.

Summer recruits James Heale, George Alvis and Joe Vanstone are at 11, 12 and 13 respectively.
