Plymouth Argyle travel to Cambridge United tomorrow knowing their chances of an automatic play-off slot are very slim after last weekend’s 3-2 loss to already-relegated Dagenham and Redbridge.

Cambridge have been in good form recently and still have a slim chance of gaining a play-off position themselves. The Pilgrims have been suffering from inconsistent form since the turn of the year so really there’s no telling how they will fare or, indeed, against Hartlepool United in the final league game at Home Park on Saturday, May 7.

Last week’s woeful result left the Pilgrims on 77 points. They are in fifth spot, three points outside the automatic promotion berths with only two games to play.

It is more than likely that they will now have to settle for the play-offs, despite having been so well placed at the top of the league midway through the season.
