LISKEARD'S under-14 girls were handed a tough home tie against Helston in the quarter-finals of the Cornwall County Cup, but booked their place in the last four of the competition following an assured performance against Helston last Sunday.
The game was due to be played nine-versus-nine but, due to illness and absentees, the hosts were only able to field a team of eight.
Liskeard started the game well, with captain Louise Smith making storming runs down the right wing to win her team a succession of corners from which they were unable to capitalise.
Claudia Taylor worked hard in the centre of the park, winning countless tackles and stopping Helston from getting out of their half. And her hard work was rewarded with a goal as she guided the ball superbly in to the top corner of the net.
