Liskeard School and Community College pupils Ellie Reed, aged 13, and Cara Collins, aged 11, came away with five medals between them at the Cornwall Bronzes played at The Sports Hub at Treviglas, Newquay.

Cara kicked off the medal rush at the U13 event picking up a silver medal in the singles and rounded it off with a gold medal in the doubles.

In the U15 event Ellie achieved a silver medal in the singles event and then teamed up with Cara in the doubles to pick up a silver medal.

This is a tremendous achievement for Cara to win a medal while playing up an age group to the U15s and is recognition of the hard work the girls are putting in training together.

The tournaments attract players from all over the country. Both girls play for Cornwall Youth Badminton representing their county and are both members of Liskeard Junior and Inclusive Badminton Club, which welcomes members of all ages and abilities.

The badminton club has been growing strongly over the last few years with the achievement of Badminton England Premier Club status earlier this year recognising the club's standards with regard to coaching and its procedures.

In September the club started an inclusive club offering badminton to anyone with a disability, after successfully applying for a grant from Badminton England. These sessions take place at Lux Park Leisure Centre on a Monday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Thanks must go to Cornwall Sports Partnership who have supplied them with sports wheelchairs and thanks also to East Cornwall Community Badminton Network for their support.

If anyone is interested in joining the club then please get in touch with Jenny Marchant on 01579 346582 or Claire Reed 07974 966304.
