PAUL Greenwood, chairman of the Cornish Lugger Association, and his wife, Maggie, have been in France, drumming up support for next year's edition of their ever-popular Looe Bay regatta. Sailing their own lugger, Erin, they caused quite a stir on the Aisne, in the Picardy region of northern France, where most of the boats are intended for inland waterway use and not the open sea, writes the Sunday Independent's sailing correspondent John Collings. In fact, such was the interest in their presence that the French-based Irish journalist Denis Mahaffey featured them in a Soissons publication, l'Union, which sets aside a regular corner for summer visitors. Under the heading 'A seagoing vessel sails down the Aisne', Mahaffey told how the Greenwoods were en route to Brittany to meet up with old friends of the Lugger Association..
