Volunteers are needed to help change the face of cricket in Cornwall.

The number of cricket clubs in Cornwall is at its lowest level since 1968 and, compared with other minor counties, the number of cricketers from the Duchy who step up to first class county and Test Match status is below the national average. The county has a successful women’s team but need a full-time coach and team manager as well as proper funding to ensure they can fulfil their fixtures.

Cornwall Cricket wants to change all of this and more – and to this end is setting up a new charitable entity whose aim is to:

l Find and develop emerging young cricketers, giving them the chance to improve skills and provide a chance to progress

l Expand and promote disability cricket within the county

l Boost participation within women’s and girls’ cricket

l Keep the local club network afloat. Many clubs are in small villages and are at the heart of their local communities.
