Looe Rifle Club is celebrating its centenary this month.

The club is having a two-day celebration – a dinner at the Hannafore Point Hotel on Friday, October 30, followed by an open day at its range at Polean on Saturday, October 31, from 11am to 8pm.

Looe has a long history of rifle shooting and the club, which competes in the Bodmin-based Horse Shoe League, has built up an enviable reputation over the years.

At the open day a range of rifles and pistols in use will be demonstrated.

For security reasons the police require that admission to this event is by invitation only, and this can be arranged through club members. Anyone interested in attending should contact George Withers by calling him on 01208 871611 or by email at
