THE mayor of Saltash, Jean Dent, accompanied by her consort Bill Dent, congratulated Saltash Sailing Cadets at their annual presentation evening on their excellent successes during the past year.
She also thanked the parents who had supported the cadets by taking them to events.
Sailing Club Commodore Mrs Nina Lillie welcomed everyone and Mike Robbins, cadet principal, gave a brief talk about how the cadets were trained and their achievements in 2014.
The mayor presented RYA certificates and trophies, with the Mayor's Shield for the most improved senior cadet going to Daniel Way. The runner-up was Ellie Harding.
Other awards were: Peter Baigent Cup for the most improved Junior Cadet, Tamsyn Hills, runner-up Ethan Templeton; Principal's Commendation and the Mel Broad Cup for most time and effort, Tim Crocker; Yandell Trophy for best overall cadet 2014, Charlotte Newell.
Mrs Lillie presented the Commodore's Cup to adult member Neville Devonport for being the winning Saltash boat in the Bart-S Bash race held in 2014 in memory of the late Andrew Simpson. Races were held internationally and Saltash Sailing Club took part.
News of Saltash Sailing Club's entry in the RYA Club of the Year Competition was announced.
The club had reached the second round and were waiting for the final result which will be announced in a few weeks' time.
