YOUNG scientists from Liskeard School and Community College helped a beaver scout troop achieve a new badge.
The Year 7 students went to the scout hut in Upton Cross to help the Linkinhorne 1st Beaver group pass their ‘experiments’ badge.
It was up to the secondary students to decide and plan which experiments to run, and with erupting volcanos and exploding cola bottles part of the fun, the younger children were very excited.
The group also learned about chromatography (separating coloured dyes or other components from a mixture) and about how to clean pennies using a chemical reaction.
The project was part of Liskeard School’s community outreach, as it looks forward to celebrating the 40th anniversary of becoming a comprehensive school.
Teacher Dr Ceri Shilling said that the students were ‘kind, helpful and polite’ throughout the visit.
‘It was a delightful community project with 7E,’ she said.
‘They were amazing and a real credit to the school.’?Year 7 students who helped were Mitchell White, Isla Colenso, Freya Bevan, Maisie Hooper, Caitlin Murray, Cameron Thompson, Emily Marshall, Bell Rollings, Lilia Karn and Morwenna Burgess.
And the school was even more delighted to report that all the Beavers passed their badge with flying colours.
