A YOUNG Cornish footballer had the chance to quiz Frank Lampard in an exclusive Zoom call.

Kori Dunn from Charlestown FC was one of 11 youngsters taking part in the virtual event thanks to Chelsea FC’s automotive partner Hyundai. Eleven junior clubs from across the UK have been selected to be part of the second season of Hyundai FC: a grassroots football programme giving clubs and their fans the benefit of a year’s worth of support and experiences.

The young representatives had the chance to pose questions to legendary midfielder and Chelsea manager Frank during their video call hosted by former Sky Sports presenter and Talksport radio presenter Laura Woods.

In the virtual Q&A, questions from other players to Frank Lampard included: “Messi or Ronaldo?’ to which Frank replied: “I’m going to have to go with Messi on pure, natural talent.”

Frank was also asked to list his dream seven-a-side team, and named the likes of Neuer, Gerard, Zidane and Ronaldinho.

Kori, who coincidentally plays midfield for the U13s at his local club, wanted to know: “Who are the toughest players you’ve played with, and against?”

Here’s what Frank said: “I tend to name two, on both parts of that question. The two that I name when I say against is Xavi and Iniesta at Barcelona. They were the two midfield players. They were great players. They were kind of not the biggest and quite slight. It just shows it doesn’t matter, because sometimes people think you have to be huge to be a football player. You don’t.

“And then when I talk about players I played with, I literally cannot split John Terry and Didier Drogba. So those two were such huge figures at Chelsea who I was very fortunate to play with. And I can’t split them, so there’s my answer. Both of them.”

All the young players at Charleston Rhinos had been asked to submit a question and after Kori’s was selected, the other players, managers and coaches were invited to watch and listen in to the video call, as manager Chris Pearce explains: “We all signed in from our own homes due to COVID-19 and prepared to listen, learn and have fun in supporting our team-mate Kori with his question.

“Frank Lampard came on and everyone was very excited and had to pinch themselves at the fact that this footballing legend was on the screen in their household for them.

“Kori eventually got his moment in the spotlight. He was very clear, confident and had a glowing smile throughout.”
