CORNISH Young Farmers will be setting a new world record for cream tea eating at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show (June 7 to 9).
One member from each of 20 clubs affiliated with the Cornwall Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs will attempt to eat as many jam and cream scones as possible in two minutes.
A new world record will be set no matter what - because no attempts of this type have previously been made.
200 scones, naturally created the Cornish way with the jam applied to the scone before the clotted cream, will be consumed by the contestants during the challenge which will take place at 2pm on Saturday, June 9 in the Cornwall YFC marquee.
The challenge is an opportunity to shine a light on the youth organisation’s current recruitment drive to encourage more young people in Cornwall to get involved with their local young farmers’ club.
Cornwall YFC chairman, Ed Harris, said: ‘Cornwall Young Farmers’ Clubs provide a fantastic chance to meet lifelong friends, learn new skills, make a real difference to the local community and even travel the world.
‘We have around 800 members in Cornwall at present and with our #Project1000 campaign we hope to push that up to one thousand or more.
‘There are clubs right across the county and anyone aged 10 to 26 can join and you don’t have to be a farmer!’
The clotted cream for the record attempt has been donated by Rodda’s, the strawberry jam by Boddington’s Berries and the scones by Warrens Bakery.
