The Millennium Dome at Greenwich in London is now open and, as we have all been informed, is having some troubles.

The Cornish Times took to the street of Liskeard to ask: 'Would you go to the Millennium Dome while it's open?'

Jan Morrow said: 'I have thought about going to the Millennium Dome and we talked about it before the New Year and decided that if we did go it would be later in the year when there would be less crowds.'

She continued: 'It is an obscene amount of money and it is a waste of money when you think about the current problems such as the health service. The money could have been used on that.'

Agreeing with Jan is Mr Nick Nixson who, when asked if he would go to the Dome, said: 'I wouldn't even consider it. It's purely entertainment and the money could have been used more wisely on the country's problems.'

Mrs Jill Pryor has considered going to the Dome but said: 'We see snippets of the bad press in the news so I did think perhaps it isn't worth going - and besides it is a long way to go and would cost a lot.'

Many people have agreed that the cost of transport and the distance to travel is a downside to the visit to the Millennium Dome.

One of those is Sarah Short who said: 'I'm not keen on the cost of the transport and the distance to go. It has never specifically interested me.'

Maria Kennedy-Head would consider going to the Dome, but again the cost of transport puts her off the idea.

Mr Ambrose Broad said: 'It would be nice to go to the Dome but it would be very expensive when going from this area. But I have not considered going myself.'

Visiting Liskeard from Mevagissey was Juliet Brown who would not consider going to the Millennium Dome. She said: 'From what I've seen on television there is nothing there that interests me particularly.'

Friends Becky Howard and Sarah Hunkin agreed, and doubted they would go as it would be a waste of their money for a start.

With strong views on the Millennium Dome Paul Lounder said: 'I would certainly not even consider going to the Dome. Considering the troubles that we have in this country at the moment it is a lot of money for what it is.' He continued: 'I worked it out once and the amount of money that was spent on it could easily have funded many nurses or police for years.'
