'WATCH out I'm about,' – that's the warning given to motorists in Liskeard by the town's new traffic warden. So far he has booked 50 motorists for parking illegally around the town's streets, but says he is not 'slap happy' with tickets. Because the town has not had a traffic warden for almost four months he says people have become complacent and have been regularly parking where they shouldn't. 'I have been talking to motorists and re-educating them. I have been easing them back into getting used to having a traffic warden around again,' he said. Fifty-year-old Bob Anslow who moved from Bromsgrove, Birmingham to take up the job at the beginning of October, says up to now he has been having a settling in period. However, from the end of the month onwards he intends to 'toughen up' and says he will be everywhere in Liskeard not just in the town centre. Admitting there have been complaints from motorists since he arrived in Liskeard, Mr Anslow says he doesn't make the rules and he has been employed to enforce them. 'I am here to do a job. If I see someone parked on a yellow line they will get a parking ticket. It is unfair a motorist should do this when someone else has payed to park legally in the car park.' The warden says it is important to keep traffic flowing smoothly and has identified the hot spots to be Barras Street and The Parade. No parking 'There is no parking at all at any time in either the bus or taxi bays. I know motorists like to pull in there for a couple of minutes while they dash to the cash machines, the shops or to get some chips, but that will have to stop, and I will book people for doing so.' Mr Anslow also says he has been trying to get to know the traders in the town so that they can work together, especially when they are having deliveries. 'It is all about them informing me, especially if they are leaving their own vehicles parked in the street unattended.' The warden says his hours will also vary, so people will not be able to work out when he is around. However he will definitely be covering the early morning rushes, especially at school times, and will be around at the busy times at the end of the working day . 'With the arrival of Bob a new era has dawned for Liskeard,' said the Neighbourhood Sgt, Dave Cartwright. 'We have had a small spate of complaints since the warden has started issuing tickets for parking offences. People have become complacent, but now we have a warden back and he is almost full time. 'This frees up our response officers from traffic duties and enables them to concentrate on other matters. When we were without a warden we were getting complaints from taxi and bus drivers who couldn't get into their parking spaces. Buses had even resorted to simply parking in the middle of the road. This causes congestion, frustration and anger, and could lead to accidents.' Sgt Cartwright said people now found to be parking illegally will be firmly dealt with and will be getting £30 fixed penalty notices to be paid through the courts. People with no vehicle tax will also be reported to the police by the warden.
