A CLIFF in South East Cornwall is in danger of collapse as a huge storm heads in from the Atlantic.

Part of the coast path at Talland Bay has been closed off amid fears the cliff could slip at any moment.

Cornwall Council closed the path after an engineer assessed large tension cracks.

Local resident Lamorna Spry, who walks her dog along the coast path most days, said: 'We have been waiting for something like this to happen for several years.

'The cliff edge seems to be getting closer to the path all the time. My worry is that this is one of the most beautiful walks along the entire coastline and this situation will affect local people as well as the many visitors.

'I hope Cornwall Council can come up with a long-term plan.'

Cornwall councillor for the area Edwina Hannaford said: 'There are tension cracks running along the road and the cliff can be heard to be moving.

'I fear that with more heavy rain forecast and with the land already saturated that there may be further landslips.'

Meanwhile, vulnerable areas along the coast, including Looe and Fowey, will be on storm watch today and throughout the weekend due to high spring tides and a potential storm surge.
