Yellow fish are set to make a colourful splash tomorrow.

An event at the Polraen Country House Hotel in Sandplace will mark the official launch of the ‘Yellow Fish’ environmental project.

‘Only Rain Down the Drain’ is the message from the Looe Bathing Waters Project and the Looe Marine Conservation Group.

Painted yellow fish have been appearing on kerbsides and drains in Liskeard and Looe, reminding people not to allow fats, oils, paints, detergents or anything other than rainwater into the drainage system.

Yellow willow fish sculptures have been made at workshops in Liskeard and Looe, and these will be at the event in Sandplace.

There will be music from the Looe Uke band, a performance by Sheila Brock’s young dancers and storytelling by Mazed Tales.

A spokesperson said: ‘This event has been organised to raise awareness about sources of pollution that affect the quality of water in local streams and rivers. Ultimately, this has an effect on the quality of the bathing water at Looe Beach.’

The Yellow Fish sculptures will be part of the processions at Liskeard Carnival today and Looe Carnival on August 5, and will be seen at the Liskeard Show on July 8.

A parade of yellow fish will take place from the Rose Garden in East Looe to Looe Railway Station at noon on Sunday.
