This Astor League fixture between Saltash Utd Juniors and Tavistock - two teams in the lower half of the league - produced some determined and entertaining football.

Early pressure from Tavistock resulted in some excellent saves from Tony Jane in the Ashes goal. Ashes gained the advantage when Ben Philp scored after 12 minutes, hammering home a corner from Lee Jacketts. Only a minute later Daniel Thompson increase the lead and the game looked set in Ashes favour. Tavistock fought back and scored a well taken goal after 30 minutes, however, within the space of seven minutes David Wright scored two fine goals to put Ashes 4-1 ahead at half-time.

Ashes looked the stronger side in the second half and Lee Jacketts scored the fifth direct from a corner. David Wright completed his hat-trick five minutes from full time, making the final score 6-1. A well-earned three points for Saltash who now seem to have found form somewhat late in the season.

St Cleer U14's suffered two defeats in three days in the DJM Grenville, against two of the stronger sides.

On Thursday they travelled to Kitto Kestrals and after a poor performance suffered a 10-2 defeat. The only highlights were two goals, both from Craig Hamson, voted Man of the Match by both managers, adding to his already impressive tally.

On Saturday, a much better performance saw St Cleer lead 1-0 against third-placed Tamarside at half-time, the goal once again coming from Craig Hamson.

Tamarside improved after the break and soon scored two goals to take the lead. Hamson scored another typical goal with 15 minutes to go, bringing the sides level. However, some late pressure from Tamarside saw them take the match 4-2, with two goals coming in 10 minutes of time added-on.

Even in defeat there were some excellent performances throughout the team, with central defenders Dan Ball and Neal Davy catching the eye and they were well supported by full backs Steven Tapper and Jamie Truscott. Good work by midfielders James Brown and Martyn Hake helped create good chances for Craig Walton and Hamson, only for the Tamarside keeper to save well. Although beaten, St Cleer produced a much-improved performance from recent weeks. Craig Hamson won the Tamarside Man of the Match award after causing them problems all game, while Neal Davy won St Cleer's manager's Man of the Match after he frustrated their 6' 2" centre forward time and time again.

This week, St Cleer visit Activate.
