Pensilva have suffered two heavy DJM U-13 defeats at the hands of Tamarside already this season, but made amends on Saturday by returning home from the high flying Plymouth side with a 2-0 victory.
This was a battling performance by Pensilva, and the defence looked especially strong, mopping up all that the home side could throw at them. Tom Moore gave Pensilva a 1-0 half time lead, hooking in a corner from Adam Hutchings. Hutchings himself scored the second midway through the second half with a spectacular curling shot from 30 yards, and also collected the opposing manager's man of the match award.
This was such a good all round effort by the fast improving Pensilva side that their manager thought it unfair to single out one player for his man of the match award. Pensilva still have a battle on their hands to avoid relegation, but on this performance it is battle they could yet win.
In the Grenville U-14s St Cleer travelled to Tothill to play Prince Rock and on a good day for football it was Rock who started the better taking the lead after 20 minutes when St Cleer 'keeper Robin Brown failed to gather the ball and Paul Cheuwan forced home the loose ball.
Craig Walton and Martyn Hake had a good chance to score but the equaliser came from hard working Craig Harrison after good work by Steven Tapper.
In the first half Prince Rock played above their league position but James Brown and Neal Davy contained their forwards well.
St Cleer stepped up the pressure in the second half and after an excellent run by Hamson, Hake turned in the area to fire home number two which was soon followed by a second goal from Hamson.
With Jamie Truscott having his best game of the season as an attacking full back and Tapper excelling in midfield good play by Walton enabled Hake to chip the keeper for number four.
Tapper threaded through a fine ball for Hake to complete his hat-trick and Hamson hammered home the sixth for his hat-trick. A superb chipped free kick by James Brown saw Hake make it 7-1.
Brown dominated in the air and won the man of the match from St Cleer and Craig Hamson got the award from Prince Rock.
This was a fine performance by St Cleer with many excellent individual performances. St Cleer have no game this week due to school commitments.
Pensilva entertained Weston Mill in DJM Rodney and secured the points with a 3-2 victory.
The visitors opened the scoring after just five minutes when they took advantage of a defensive lapse. This stunned the 'Pens' into action and they dominated the following 25 minutes. It was during this spell that defender 'Spud' Pocock headed against the Mill bar and two other efforts were cleared off the line. Despite heavy pressure from the home side, Weston Mill retained their one goal lead at the break.
Pensilva kept up the momentum and equalise when Phil Lucas fired home from close range. The visitors were now struggling to contain their hosts but as the 'Pens' pushed forward in search of a second goal, Mill countered and took a 2-1 lead.
Pensilva launched an all-out assault on the visitors goal with the midfield quartet of Matt Blank, Anthony Chapman, Joel Key and Dan Loftus particularly influential. Indeed it was good work by Key that allowed Stephen Howells to coolly slot home the 'Pens' second to level the scores at 2-2. The home side went in search of the winner and were rewarded 12 minutes from time. A great pass from Blank set Chapman free down the right hand touchline, he crossed into the box and Lucas, with his back to the goal, twisted in mid air and unleashed a brilliant scissor-kick to rifle the ball into the corner of the net.
The young 'Pens' striker then celebrated his second goal with a 'dance' routine that would not have looked out of place at the local Carlton nightclub. Weston Mill pushed forward in an attempt to salvage something but Pensilva maintained their advantage due mainly to a fine 'double' save from 'keeper Aaron Johnston, coupled with some resolute defending .
This was a solid workmanlike performance from Pensilva and the three points were well earned. Opp. Man of the Match - 'Spud' Pocock.
