In celebration of National Flower Arranging Day today some lucky members of the public from across the UK will find themselves bringing home an unexpected find of a beautiful bouquet of flowers - as thousands of posies invite passers-by to take them home.

The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS) will be spreading a little happiness all over the country as their members head out in force to adorn Britain’s public places with flower bouquets – which will be left everywhere from park benches to shop doorsteps to city landmarks.

The flowers will be brightly branded with a large NAFAS postcard stating ‘Please Take Me Home’ so that the individuals, who spot them, will have no doubt that the bouquet is theirs to keep.

The idea of leaving bouquets for strangers as a random act of kindness originated in Belgium, when a local florist begun leaving flowers for people on the streets. The concept went viral and these have been distributed by NAFAS every year since.

Flowers can brighten up the greyest days and NAFAS hopes that by promoting National Flower Arranging Day (as well as friendship and kindness) by embellishing towns and cities in flowers, it will also raise awareness of the life enhancing benefits of flower arranging and attract more people to join their local flower club.
