A CALLINGTON youngster is asking people in South East Cornwall to help her realise her dream of becoming the 'Junior Face of the Globe' at an international pageant later this month.

Wenna Bates, 12, won the South West regional heat at an event in Weston-super-Mare.

Now she needs as many people as possible to 'like' her picture on the Face of the Globe Facebook page by October 25.

'I'm really excited – it's going to be interesting to meet all the competitors from the other countries,' said Wenna, who will travel to London for three days at half-term before heading to Disneyland Paris for a further four days.

Impressing the judges with her catwalk style at the regional heat, Wenna also had to answer questions on stage as well as taking part in an individual interview.

'One of the questions was about what you would do if you could be in charge of your school for a day,' said Wenna, a Year 8 student at Callington Community College.

'I said that I would hold another sports day dedicated to team games. I play netball and I feel like it's more of an achievement when you win something as part of a team.'

A further criteria for selection was to fundraise for Face of the Globe's Rainbow Children Foundation and Wenna was praised for raising the highest total.

'I did a sponsored run to Kit Hill and sold rainbow patterned loom band bracelets, and raised about £106,' she said.

'My school has agreed to let me do a cake sale and other fundraising activities.'
