There has long been a precious – and hard-fought- for – right of freedom of speech enjoyed by all in the UK. However, in rural South East Cornwall, it would seem that not everyone believes that this right applies to all. Like many others in and around Pensilva, I object to the siting of an 80-metre wind turbine within 600 metres of my home and I erected a small sign which conveyed my objection – 'No Windfarm'. Others did the same. Recently all of the signs in around Pensilva were first vandalised with spray paint on a Friday night and, after the signs were restored, they were all stolen the following Friday night. To the individuals involved, who presumably support the turbine, I would say that I would gladly fight for your right to speak freely – please respect ours and, incidentally, obey the law.
